If you have also forgotten your license number or lost your payment receipt, you can try recovering your details online before visiting the office.

How to Report a Lost Driving License Online in Nepal

Nepal Police provides the Lost Document Information Management System (LDIMS) for reporting missing documents, including driving licenses. You can submit the report from your phone or computer.

Step 1: Open the Nepal Police LDIMS Portal

Visit the official Nepal Police LDIMS website and select the option to register a lost document.

Step 2: Fill in Your License Details

Select LICENSE from the document type menu. Enter the information requested on the form:

  • Driving license number
  • License issuing zone or office
  • Full name and mobile number
  • Province, district, municipality, and ward number

Make sure your details match your official records.

Step 3: Upload Your Document and Submit

Upload a clear image of the identity document accepted by the portal, such as your citizenship certificate or passport. The form accepts PNG or JPG files up to 1 MB. Review your details before submitting.

Save your Application ID. You will need it to track your report.

Step 4: Check Status and Download the Police Report

Return to the LDIMS portal and open the application status option. Enter your Application ID to check the progress. Once approved, download and print your Police Loss Recommendation Letter (Sifaris Patra).

Approval time depends on verification and office workload.

How to Apply for a Duplicate Driving License in Nepal

After receiving the police recommendation letter, visit the transport office responsible for your driving license record.

Documents Required for a Duplicate License

Document Requirement
Police recommendation letter Printed copy
Citizenship certificate Original and photocopy
Old license or payment receipt If available
Driving license number For record verification
Passport-size photographs If requested by the office
Other supporting documents As instructed by your transport office

Step 1: Visit Your Yatayat Karyalaya

Go to your issuing Transport Management Office and ask for the duplicate license application counter. If your license was issued in another district, contact that office first to confirm whether you must apply there.

Step 2: Submit Documents and Verify Your Record

Present your police recommendation letter and citizenship certificate. The staff will check your driving license record. You may also need to complete an application form or biometric verification.

Before proceeding, check your name, date of birth, vehicle categories, and license number.

Step 3: Pay the Duplicate License Fee

After your application is accepted, pay the prescribed fee using the payment method provided by the office. The official transport-office guidance lists NPR 500 for a duplicate license. Confirm the current charge with your office; renewal or correction fees may be separate.

Keep your payment receipt.

Step 4: Collect Your Replacement Document

The office will explain whether you can collect a duplicate receipt immediately or must wait for further processing.

Physical smart-card availability may vary.

Confirm which document you can legally use while waiting for your replacement card.

License Harayo Ke Garne? How to Find Your Lost License Number

What if both your driving license and Rajaswa Rasid (revenue payment receipt) are missing? You may still be able to find your license number using your Nagarik App account or citizenship information.

Method 1: Check Your Nagarik App

If your driving license was previously linked to the Nagarik App:

  1. Open the app and sign in.
  2. Go to the Driving License section.
  3. Open your saved license record.
  4. Note your license number and other available details.

This is usually the quickest option when your record is already linked.

Method 2: Recover License Details Through the DoTM Portal

The DoTM online application system may identify an existing driving license using citizenship information. Step 1: Open the official DoTM online application portal.

Step 2: Enter your registered mobile number and complete the CAPTCHA.

Step 3: Enter your MPIN. Use the recovery option if you have forgotten it. Step 4: Follow the identity verification instructions shown on the portal. If asked whether you already hold a Nepali driving license, answer Yes. Use only the existing-record options available to your account.

If an existing-license lookup is available, you may be asked for:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth in Bikram Sambat (BS)
  • Citizenship number
  • Citizenship issuing district
  • Citizenship issue date
Citizenship identity fields including name and date of birth

When the system identifies a matching record, it may display your license number, category, issue date, expiry date, and current status.

Important: Some online tutorials demonstrate selecting "No, I don't have a Nepali driving license" to trigger an existing-record check. This is not a verified official recovery method. Do not make a false declaration or submit a new-license application if you already hold a license.

If you cannot recover your number through the available account options, ask your issuing transport office to locate your record.

Method 3: Check Your License Details Online

Once you know your license number, open the official DoTM License Check page. Enter the requested license details and date of birth, complete the CAPTCHA, and search.

You can also use our driving license print checker to search available government PDF records and check whether your license appears in a published printing list. It searches imported printed lists; it cannot recover an unknown license number or issue a duplicate.

Method 4: Find Your License Number at the Transport Office

If online recovery fails, take your original citizenship certificate to the office where your license record is maintained. Ask the record section (Abhilekh Shakha) to search for your driving license details.

This is particularly useful if you have changed your mobile number or cannot access your DoTM account.

What If Your Lost Driving License Has Expired?

If your license was already expired when you lost it, you may need both renewal and duplicate issuance. Some provincial systems may support a combined renewal and duplicate application.

Ask your transport office about the correct process and applicable charges before submitting payment. Check the driving license renewal requirements if your lost license has also expired.

What If You Lost Your License Payment Receipt?

If your smart license has not yet been issued and you have lost the original Rajaswa Rasid, you may not need the same procedure used for replacing an issued smart card. First, look for a receipt photo, payment reference, or photocopy.

If no record is available, contact the transport office where you made the payment. Staff can explain how to retrieve your payment details and which documents are needed for license collection.

Avoid paying for a duplicate smart card until the office confirms that this is the correct process.

Common Problems and Solutions

My LDIMS report is still pending.

Check its status using your Application ID. If it remains pending longer than expected, contact the responsible police office. Avoid submitting another report unless instructed.

My citizenship details don't match the license record.

Differences in spelling, date of birth, or citizenship number can prevent verification. Ask your transport office about correcting the original record rather than entering incorrect details.

My registered mobile number is no longer active.

Try the DoTM account recovery options. If you cannot complete verification, contact your licensing office for assistance.

Can I apply from another district?

You can start the online police report remotely, but duplicate issuance depends on the office holding your record and provincial procedures. Confirm whether another office can process your application before travelling.

Can I drive with a photocopy of my lost license?

Do not assume a photocopy, screenshot, or ordinary payment receipt is valid proof of driving authority. Confirm the accepted documents with the relevant traffic police or transport office. If you need the government publication behind a print record, browse the original printed license PDFs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a duplicate driving license in Nepal?

Processing depends on police verification, the transport office, and smart-card availability. A replacement receipt may be issued before the physical card is ready, but there is no guaranteed nationwide timeframe.

Is a police report necessary if my license was stolen?

The lost-document reporting process can also be relevant to stolen licenses. If the theft involved other documents or suspected misuse, contact Nepal Police for the appropriate reporting procedure.

Can I get a duplicate license without my old license copy?

An old copy can help identify your record, but it may not be essential if the transport office can verify your details using your citizenship certificate and existing license record.

Can someone else collect my duplicate license?

Collection and authorization rules depend on the issuing office. Ask whether personal attendance is mandatory or an authorized representative is permitted.

Before Visiting the Transport Office

Check the office's working hours and current document requirements. Carry your original citizenship certificate, police recommendation letter, and any available license records.

If your license is expired or your personal details need correction, mention this at the help desk so you can confirm the correct procedure before paying any fees.
